The measure was published this Friday, September 18, in the Official Gazette of Aragon and will come into force on Sunday, September 20. The new extension follows on from the previous one, which expires this Saturday, September 19, and applies to large-family certificates in Zaragoza and Huesca that expire before the administration has completed their renewal due to accumulated delays.
The regional government itself acknowledges in the order an “accumulation of tasks” in managing certificates and cards, caused by the “high number of applications” that must be renewed in recent months. This situation, the document states, “is causing delays that are affecting Aragonese families and require urgent measures to resolve them.”
WHAT HAPPENS IF A LARGE-FAMILY CERTIFICATE EXPIRES
The extension will apply automatically to large-family certificates held by residents of the provinces of Zaragoza and Huesca. As a result, they will continue to produce all the effects established by law, and families will be able to continue proving their status and accessing the corresponding benefits even after the expiry date printed on the document.
There is, however, an important condition to bear in mind. The automatic extension of the certificate does not mean that the renewal process can be ignored. People whose documents expire during this period must still apply for renewal, an obligation that the Government of Aragon expressly maintains despite the extension of the certificate's validity.
The order also covers cases of separation or divorce in which the certificate is held by each parent during alternating periods. When the period corresponding to one party ends, validity will be renewed alternately and automatically in favor of the other, while respecting the start date that would have applied under normal circumstances.
HOW TO PROVE THAT THE CERTIFICATE IS STILL VALID
The extension does not allow families to retain the benefits if they stop meeting the requirements that entitled them to the certificate during these months. If large-family status ends, the associated benefits may no longer be used from that date, even if the general extension period approved by the regional government is still in force.
Another useful point for families is how to prove that the certificate remains valid even though it is listed as expired. The order establishes that the text published in the Official Gazette of Aragon (BOA) may itself be presented to prove the validity of the certificate or card. In this way, the date shown on the document will not prevent its validity from being established during the extraordinary period.
