Influenza A is a respiratory infection caused by type A influenza viruses, which are among the main causes of seasonal flu epidemics. It is primarily transmitted from person to person through respiratory droplets and particles released when speaking, coughing or sneezing, especially in enclosed spaces and when there is close and prolonged contact.
The most common symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, muscle aches, headache and fatigue. Although the condition generally has a favorable outcome, older people and those with chronic illnesses face a higher risk of complications and requiring hospital care.
To reduce transmission, people are advised to maintain proper hand hygiene, ventilate enclosed spaces, cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and avoid contact with others when flu-like symptoms appear.
