The areas that remain on red alert are Bajo Ebro Forestal, Muela de Alcubierre, Muela de Valmadrid, Muela de Zuera, Prepirineo Occidental, Somontano Occidental and Somontano Oriental. Most of the rest of the region is at orange alert level, while the northeastern tip of the Pyrenees and much of Teruel province have dropped to yellow or even green.
RISK FALLS AFTER TWO DAYS OF WIDESPREAD ALERTS
The change is significant compared with the start of the week. On Monday, practically the entire region remained on red alert, with 25 affected areas. On Tuesday, the figure fell slightly to 23, but the highest alert level was still in place across much of all three provinces. This Wednesday, by contrast, red alert is limited to seven specific areas.
Even so, the danger has not disappeared completely, which is why the Government of Aragon warns that high-intensity fires could still break out in areas where vegetation fuel is more readily available, while fires elsewhere are expected to be of medium or low intensity.
WIND REMAINS THE MAIN FACTOR IN FIRE SPREAD
Wind will once again be one of the elements to monitor during the day. Moderate northerly winds are expected, with strong intervals and likely very strong gusts in the Ebro depression, which could encourage the rapid spread of flames alongside the terrain's topography.
In the areas that remain on red alert, the usual restrictions remain in force: lighting fires in open spaces and recreational areas, using pyrotechnic material in forest environments and, except in specific cases, operating machinery that could generate sparks, deflagrations or electrical discharges in forested areas and within a 400-metre strip around them are prohibited.
Authorisations for certain sporting events and public activities in forest environments are also suspended when they do not expressly include the conditions required to take place under a red alert. Agricultural work remains subject to the planned exemptions, although with time restrictions and additional prevention measures in the highest-risk areas.
