End to Aragon's Medical Dispute: Unions Agree New Working Conditions With Salud

Aragon's medical dispute has ended once again. Medical unions Cesm Aragón and Fasamet have reached an agreement with the Aragon Health Service (Salud) to improve working conditions in the profession after four months of negotiations, the strike committee confirmed to ARAGÓN DIGITAL. They will sign the agreement with Aragon President Jorge Azcón on Thursday morning at the Pignatelli Building.

Health Minister Ángel Sanz said on Tuesday that negotiations were "well advanced" and that he expected to be able to present an agreement “imminently” later this week.

Although the medical unions currently prefer to keep the details of the agreement private, their demands included the introduction of level four of the professional career system and an increase in on-call pay, as well as making on-call shifts voluntary, among other issues. The Cesm Aragón and Fasamet unions have repeatedly stressed that on-call hours in Aragon are among “the worst paid” in Spain.

The negotiations date back to May 15, when the Health Department and the unions signed a preliminary agreement that led to the cancellation of regional strikes called in previous months. The deal established a four-month negotiation period with the strike committee to examine the main demands of Aragon's doctors.
