García Mur has more than two decades of experience in breast disease and has headed the Miguel Servet’s Breast Radiology Section since 2016. Under her leadership, it has become the first Radiology section at the hospital to obtain quality accreditation under international ISO standards, with a working approach based on diagnostic excellence, innovation and patient-centered care

MORE THAN TWO DECADES DEVOTED TO BREAST RADIOLOGY

A graduate in Medicine and Surgery and a cum laude doctoral graduate from the University of Zaragoza, García Mur initially completed her specialty in Family and Community Medicine before turning her professional career toward Diagnostic Radiology. She has more than two decades of exclusive experience in breast disease, during which she has developed extensive expertise in the diagnosis and monitoring of breast cancer.

Her professional work has also included undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervising doctoral theses and participating in clinical research projects. In the field of scientific management, she coordinates the Breast Cancer Process at her hospital and has served as editor of the breast section of the scientific journal Radiología.

Her career has also been recognized by the Spanish Society of Medical Radiology (SERAM), which awarded her its Professional Career Award for her contribution to the specialty.

TEAMWORK, KEY TO BREAST CANCER CARE

For Carmen García Mur, this recognition also has a collective significance. “Receiving this award is not only a personal acknowledgment, but also an opportunity to share it with my colleagues involved in the breast cancer care process. It is also an encouragement for everyone to continue along this path,” she says.

The doctor places particular emphasis on the joint work of the professionals involved in caring for oncology patients. “We are defined by the enthusiasm and motivation with which we approach diagnostic imaging every day,” she explains. In this regard, she stresses that breast cancer care necessarily requires a multidisciplinary approach: “This is the way medicine is practiced today. We work as a team, with each specialty contributing its best so that every patient’s treatment is personalized.”

Her clinical, teaching and research work has also been complemented by her interest in humanizing healthcare, with projects aimed at improving clinical communication and reducing the emotional impact of facing a diagnostic and therapeutic process related to breast cancer.
