Aragon's flags fly at half-mast after tragic train accident in Toledo

Flags on public buildings across Aragon will fly at half-mast for the next three days as a sign of mourning for the victims of the rail accident in Toledo province. The Government of Aragon and the municipalities of Aragon have joined the official mourning declared by the central government, meaning official flags outside buildings will remain at half-mast, while those inside will display a black ribbon.

The tragedy has also altered the institutional agenda in the region. The Aragonese government has postponed the presentation of the 2027 budget, scheduled for this Thursday, while Zaragoza City Council has called off the regular plenary session it was due to hold that same day. The institutions have thus joined the expressions of mourning and solidarity with the victims of the disaster and their families.

The official mourning has also had consequences in the Congress of Deputies, where the Spanish flag is already flying at half-mast and a minute of silence has been called for this Thursday at 12:00 p.m. The lower house has also suspended its activities for the rest of the week, apart from the tribute to the victims of the rail accident.
