During yesterday’s collection, 335 blood donations were recorded, a figure that is practically double the number usually made each day at the Blood Bank, where the average ranges from 150 to 175 daily donations.
The blood was collected both at the Blood Bank’s permanent site and by the eight mobile units deployed across the three Aragonese provinces, allowing people to donate in towns and at collection points in Zaragoza, Huesca, Teruel and Sariñena, as part of the regular schedule carried out daily by the Aragon Blood and Tissue Bank.
The wave of solidarity in Aragon continued this morning. A total of 181 donations were collected this morning, 60 of them at the fixed-site collection room and 121 at mobile units deployed throughout the region.
UP TO 154 LITRES OF BLOOD
Given that each donation provides approximately 460 millilitres of blood, the 335 donations recorded yesterday yielded nearly 154 litres of blood. This is in addition to another 83 litres collected this morning, bringing the total volume of blood obtained thanks to donors’ solidarity in just 24 hours to approximately 237 litres.
In this regard, the Blood Bank highlighted that all its medical and support teams responded with complete efficiency and diligence to handle the notable increase in donors. The organisation was and remains fully prepared to accommodate this rise in demand and ensure that donations proceed properly. It conveyed this message to the Toledo Transfusion Center as soon as it learned of the rail accident, offering to send whatever blood components were necessary.
The extraordinary response from the public has helped strengthen blood reserves and once again demonstrated the commitment and spirit of solidarity that characterise Aragon in the most difficult moments.
