The increase will be phased in over three years. In 2027, the hourly on-call rate will rise by 4 euros; in 2028, another 3 euros will be added, followed by a further 3 euros in 2029. The increase will take effect on January 1 of each year and will also be applied proportionally to on-call shifts worked on public holidays.
ARAGÓN AIMS TO JOIN THE REGIONS THAT PAY THE MOST
One of the agreement’s objectives is to bring the pay of doctors in Aragón closer to that of other health services. According to the regional government, Aragón currently ranks among the regions that pay the least for on-call shifts and aims to join the five with the highest pay.
To prevent it from falling behind again, a new review will be carried out in 2030. The hourly on-call rate in Aragón will be compared with that of the five mainland Spanish regions paying the most for this work at the end of 2029.
If Aragón is below the average of those five regions, a further increase will be applied to bring its pay into that group.
25% MORE AFTER EXCEEDING 720 HOURS
The agreement also includes an improvement for doctors who accumulate a large number of on-call hours over the course of the year.
From January 1, 2027, once the annual total of additional working hours exceeds 720, the following in-person on-call shifts worked by the doctor will be paid at 25% above the hourly rate applicable at that time.
In this way, the agreement introduces additional compensation for professionals who take on a heavier on-call workload during the year.
The improvement will not apply only to working days. The rate for on-call shifts worked on public holidays will also increase proportionally as the increases scheduled for 2027, 2028 and 2029 are implemented.
Under this schedule, the increase in on-call pay becomes one of the main financial measures in the agreement reached by the Aragón Government and the medical unions, alongside the unblocking of level IV of the professional career scheme.
