Aragon Chamber of Accounts Begins Restoration of Historic Zaragoza Building

After more than a decade closed, Zaragoza’s historic building at 7 Lagasca Street is embarking on a new chapter. The Chamber of Accounts of Aragon has taken steps to turn the distinctive property, surrounded by gardens and with a long history linked to juvenile justice, into its permanent headquarters. The first step will be drafting a project to restore and adapt it.

The Council of the Chamber of Accounts has awarded the contract for this work to Santiago Carroquino Larraz, whose proposal scored 89 out of 100 points. The contract, which also includes supervising the works and coordinating health and safety measures, has a total cost of 188,557 euros, including VAT. The execution project is scheduled to be drafted this year, with a budget allocation of 86,450.97 euros.

The process will continue throughout 2027 and 2028, when the restoration work will be carried out. These services will last a total of 18 months and will make it possible to adapt the property to its new use without losing the features that have led to the building being protected for its architectural interest.

The operation will return to public use a property that has remained unused since 2013. At the end of 2025, the Government of Aragon transferred the building to the Parliament of Aragon so that it could become the headquarters of the Chamber of Accounts. The property has 877 square meters of built space, spread across three floors and a basement, and occupies a 743-square-meter plot with a garden.
