Westerveld set to return in goal for Real Zaragoza this Sunday barring setbacks

Real Zaragoza returned to training on Monday after a commanding 4-1 win over Club Deportivo Teruel. The team held its traditional recovery session, with starters and substitutes working in separate groups and at different intensities. Sem Westerveld, who missed the last match with discomfort, trained with the goalkeepers and is expected to return between the posts this Sunday.

The goalkeeper trained normally during this period. In fact, he did so throughout last week. Real Zaragoza coach, Ibai Gómez, said that it was during the last training session when he noticed something was not right and decided to stop him. Anartz Peña, the backup goalkeeper for the Blanquillo side, was therefore given the nod.

But on Monday, he appeared as if nothing had happened. He was seen training normally and, in principle, in full condition. Everything therefore suggests that he will be able to start for Real Zaragoza this Sunday, when the Blanquillo side faces Atlético Madrileño.

VADILLO ALMOST CERTAIN TO MISS OUT

For now, the player expected to be unavailable is Iker Vadillo. The Real Zaragoza attacker is suffering from a muscle injury that will prevent him from joining the group at least this week. The SAD has issued a brief and uninformative medical report that refers only to a “muscle injury.” Although the term covers a very broad range of conditions, he will almost certainly not be part of the team’s next trip.

Real Zaragoza plans to begin its week of preparations on Wednesday morning after taking Tuesday off. Training sessions are also scheduled at the Ciudad Deportiva at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, while Saturday’s session will take place at 5:30 p.m. It is worth remembering that Sunday’s match against Atlético de Madrid’s reserve side kicks off at 9:00 p.m.
