Vadillo: "Every child dreams of reaching Real Zaragoza. I want to make the most of it and bring joy"

Real Zaragoza returned to training on Wednesday with their focus on Ibiza as they target a fourth consecutive win. Iker Vadillo, a youth academy product who has just joined the first team, is expected to start. Asked whether he is living a dream, he answered yes. “I’ve been here since I was a youth player. Every child dreams of making it. I want to make the most of this opportunity, do my best and bring joy,” he said.

The player is very comfortable at Real Zaragoza. “The dressing room is super united. We’re really close. A positive attitude comes easily. We’re focused on Ibiza. I’m grateful to Ibai (the coach) for his positivity,” he began during his news conference on Wednesday in the press room at the training ground.

The forward was also asked about the beginnings of his breakthrough and the moment he signed his first-team contract. “At first I couldn’t believe it, but the preseason I had helped. I’m very grateful for the opportunity, both to Lalo (the sporting director) and the coaching staff. I want to give everything,” Vadillo explained.

Alongside his thanks, the 21-year-old insisted on the importance of excitement: “Every academy player dreams of making it. The work is there. I get along very well with the coach. The work and effort have brought this reward.”

THE COACH'S ROLE

Real Zaragoza coach Ibai Gómez has been fundamental to his promotion to the first team. “He asks me to be very positive, make the most of every minute, give everything and use my strengths: running into space, running, helping the team…” he explained.

Focusing on his strengths, Vadillo described himself as follows: “I’m versatile and can handle different situations. Whether I play as a winger or a striker, I also try to learn from my teammates, from Joaquín (Delgado), Edu (Espiau)…”

Although he is now establishing himself at Real Zaragoza, it was not long ago that he was playing for Robres and Caspe. “They are third-tier teams; it’s a different kind of football. They helped me take a step forward, not waste this opportunity and prove that I can be here,” he said.

THE START AND IBIZA

Vadillo praised Real Zaragoza's start to the season, with three wins in four matches. “I think it’s a great start. The work wasn’t reflected in the defeat in Tarragona, but we’ve had a spectacular start to the league. We have to take it one game at a time,” he explained.

All with one aim: to win. They must do so again against Ibiza this Friday: “We want to send that message to the fans and give them that gift. Ibiza haven’t made the best start, but they are a team to beat.”

Vadillo also highlighted the work being done by Real Zaragoza's academy: “It’s spectacular, from the youngest teams all the way to Deportivo Aragón.”

VADILLO'S BEGINNING

The forward was asked about his preseason goal in Logroño, but he had already been working “since last season.” “I’m grateful for the preseason in Boltaña. And the day in Logroño went well,” he said.

Finally, he spoke about his position on the pitch. “I feel comfortable as a striker, on the right wing, on the left… I like running into space alongside a second striker, I can feel comfortable there… but I’ll play wherever Ibai puts me,” concluded the Real Zaragoza forward.
