Rubén Díez ‘Jamelli’ and Pereira, Real Zaragoza’s First Fitness Concerns This Week

Real Zaragoza will need to get players back before Sunday to avoid key absences against Real Murcia. This Wednesday, during the squad’s first training session of the week, Rubén Díez ‘Jamelli’ did not work with the group due to a fever. Left-back Raúl Pereira also left the session after picking up a knock against Atlético Madrileño.

Wednesday’s session was marked by the presence of fans in the stands. Around 250 of them gathered at pitch 5 of the Ciudad Deportiva to watch training. This was where Real Zaragoza attacking midfielder Jamelli was absent and where the full-back left the session.

The first issue was the more recent one. Jamelli was missing from the usual player count. Asked about the matter, the club said that the midfielder was suffering from a fever that prevented him from working with the group.

Aside from keeping the player apart because he has a fever while colds are circulating, it is important to prevent the rest of the Real Zaragoza squad from becoming infected. For this reason, it remains to be seen when he will be able to return to training with his teammates. That will depend on how long it lasts, as well as on the second issue.

PEREIRA LEAVES TRAINING

Meanwhile, Raúl Pereira left the session moments after the warm-up. When the drills set by Ibai Gómez’s coaching staff became more intense, he departed. The Real Zaragoza left-back did not take part in the higher-intensity work.

It should be remembered that the player left the last match carrying a knock. Against Atlético Madrileño, Pereira was one of the players who came off during the final substitution window with an obvious limp caused by cramp. In fact, his absence from Wednesday’s session would not have been unexpected.

ANDER COMPLETES THE SESSION

Ander Herrera was the player who completed Wednesday’s training session with Real Zaragoza. The midfielder is now one more player at Ibai Gómez’s disposal and is gradually, at least in theory, regaining his fitness. That said, we will have to wait for the week to progress to find out whether he could be in contention to start.

The rest of the week will be decisive for Real Zaragoza in its current situation. Although Jamelli is suffering from a fever and Pereira is recovering, three more training sessions remain. We will have to wait…
