A referee who narrowly missed out on Segunda División: Camacho Garrote to officiate Real Zaragoza-Teruel

Referee Manuel Camacho Garrote will take charge of Sunday's Aragón derby between Real Zaragoza and Teruel at Ibercaja Stadium (9:00 p.m.). The Córdoba official, who narrowly missed promotion to Segunda División after the 2024-2025 season, will referee his second match of the current campaign in Aragón during his fifth season in Primera RFEF.
A referee who narrowly missed out on Segunda División: Camacho Garrote to officiate Real Zaragoza-Teruel

After being part of the refereeing roster in Segunda RFEF in the year Spain's divisions were restructured, Camacho Garrote was promoted to the third tier of national football, where he has officiated a total of 52 matches so far. The Córdoba official was precisely the referee in this new campaign for the entertaining third-round Group 1 clash in which Mirandés won 4-3 away at Mérida.

Among his statistics, Camacho Garrote, who, like all the referees officiating Real Zaragoza this season, will take charge of the Aragón club for the first time, stands out as the second referee in all of Primera RFEF for away wins in his matches (23) and seventh for dismissals, averaging 0.4 per game. These are high figures for an official who also averages 5.79 yellow cards per match.

Joining the Córdoba official for his second match of the season will be Alejandro Agote and Elias Agdaoui as assistants, with Alejandro Martínez serving as the fourth official. It will all take place in a match in which Real Zaragoza will seek a fifth consecutive win and could even move into first place, depending on Villarreal B's result against Ibiza.

ONE STEP SHORT OF SEGUNDA DIVISIÓN

As a curiosity, Camacho Garrote narrowly missed out on promotion to Segunda División after the 2024-2025 season. The Córdoba official was the first reserve for promotion to LaLiga Hypermotion on that season's official lists, meaning that if any of the promoted referees ultimately did not take up their new position in the second tier of Spanish football—for whatever reason—he would have been chosen to fill the vacancy.

That situation ultimately did not arise, which meant the referee remained in Primera RFEF. This Sunday, he will take charge of the match between a Real Zaragoza side arriving in top form after four consecutive wins and a Teruel team that is still unbeaten but sits second from bottom of the table with just two points.
