Real Zaragoza always need to win, but that need is even greater in the third tier (now Primera RFEF). They do so in a different match against Atlético Madrid's reserve side, where there is a peculiar convergence of interests.

There is a complicated web here. A.Gain, the investment group that has agreed to purchase a majority stake in the Blanquillos' SAD, also holds shares in the Colchoneros' club. However, the acquisition has not yet been completed, creating a very peculiar situation. On Sunday, in official terms, Real Zaragoza's directors will hold more shares in their opponents than in their own club.
Beyond shareholdings and management – which should not be overlooked, hence their mention first – Real Zaragoza have the opportunity to break away. After Real Jaén's draw and Alcorcón's defeat, they will begin the match one point ahead of the second-placed team.
THE SITUATION
The situation on Saturday night is as follows: Real Zaragoza lead the table with 15 points, Villarreal B are second with 14, while Alcorcón, Real Murcia and Real Jaén have 12. Those are the top five places.
In the worst-case scenario, if Real Murcia win, they would draw level with Real Zaragoza on points, although the two teams are due to face each other next week. Real Murcia still have to play Rayo Majadahonda this Sunday. In the best-case scenario, the second-placed team, which no longer have the reward of direct promotion, would be four points behind.
A draw would leave the Aragonese side two points clear of Villarreal B, but if Real Murcia win, they would be just one point ahead. That is the league situation for a Real Zaragoza side looking to return to winning ways.
THE MATCH
Real Zaragoza need to win again this Sunday and, in doing so, open up a gap. It is essential for when difficult times arrive. They will come eventually; hopefully not, but they usually do. Building a lead on matchdays such as the upcoming one will help cushion the blow. The time has come to lead the breakaway.
