Out on their own at the top: Real Zaragoza after Primera RFEF Matchday 7

Real Zaragoza, after snatching a miraculous 4-4 draw against Atlético Madrileño in Alcalá de Henares, remain sole leaders of Primera RFEF Group II. Their 16 points stand above the rest of the division, and they will spend a second consecutive matchday at the top.

The point earned allows the white-and-blues to remain at the top, but the competition in the upper reaches of the table is intense, and Ibai Gómez's side cannot afford to rest on its laurels if it wants to stay there. Real Murcia are second with 15 points after beating Rayo Majadahonda (0-1), followed by Villarreal B on 14 after drawing 3-3 with Real Jaén. Hércules have joined the race after beating Sant Andreu (1-0), while Alcorcón occupy the final playoff spot with 12 points after losing to Teruel (1-0).

Cartagena and Jaén are also close to that group with 12 points, while the gap between eighth-placed Antequera and 15th-placed Algeciras is just three points. In the relegation zone are Europa with seven points, followed by Águilas, Teruel, Rayo Majadahonda and bottom side Juventud Torremolinos.

S.D. Huesca, meanwhile, sit in mid-table in ninth place with 10 points, but the mood is mixed after a draw against Águilas in which they let two points slip away in the closing stages. As a result, Jardiel has been dismissed as the club seeks a reaction from the team and hopes of joining the promotion race.

REAL ZARAGOZA'S FIXTURES

The white-and-blues will visit their closest challengers, Real Murcia, this weekend, taking on the side at the Enrique Roca on Sunday at 18.15. A Real Zaragoza victory would provide a boost, strengthen their grip on first place and create some distance from their rivals.

Real Zaragoza have two more fixtures this October: away to Europa on the 23rd at 21.15 and against Villarreal B on the 31st at 21.00 at Ibercaja Estadio. In between those two matches, they will play the first round of the Copa del Rey against Tudelano on Tuesday the 27th at 21.00.
