Juan Carlos Cordero, ex director deportivo del Real Zaragoza, arremete contra el club: "No se ha sabido adaptar a su rol en Segunda"

"At a club like Real Zaragoza, they have not been able to, or have not known how to, adapt to their new role in a division like Segunda, as Cádiz and Tenerife have done" — two teams where he worked as sporting director — said the Murcia-born executive, who is currently unemployed.

"Being a historic club in Segunda does not mean you are going to win every match, nor will you be awarded points simply because of your name. On the contrary, it works against you, because nowadays every team has good players and highly prepared coaches. That is the major handicap I believe I saw in Zaragoza. I hope they regain their status and, in the future, aim for promotion to the top flight," he added about the club.

HIS SPELL AT REAL ZARAGOZA

Cordero arrived in January 2023, replacing Miguel Torrecilla in the role. During his time in the Aragonese capital, he oversaw five transfer windows, made a total of 28 signings and saw 24 players leave, either through transfers or as free agents. He also appointed six coaches during his two full seasons and worked alongside seven, as Fran Escribá was already in charge when he arrived.

His signings included Bebé, Toni Moya, Sinan Bakis, Poussin, Maikel Mesa, Bazdar, Soberón, Femenías, Aketxe and Keidi Bare. He also decided to bring Raúl Guti in on loan, on two occasions, during the winter transfer windows of 2024 and 2025.

His biggest sales were Alejandro Francés and Iván Azón. The other departures came either after their contracts with Real Zaragoza expired or, in Maikel Mesa's case, for a small fee after just one season in the Aragonese capital.
