Real Zaragoza coach Ibai Gómez is making no concessions. He knows his team is the clear favorite against Club Deportivo Teruel and says they must accept that naturally.

Clearly, Real Zaragoza are in “better” shape than their opponents after putting together four consecutive wins. All the more so given that Teruel have yet to get off the mark in the standings. Those are undeniable facts.

As for the key factors, Ibai offered a few. “We need to take the lead as soon as possible, otherwise the match will be long and difficult. With the right mentality, the team will be able to demonstrate its abilities,” the Real Zaragoza coach said.

When assessing Teruel, the coach admits he has a few slight doubts. He did say, however, that the match can generally be compared with the games Real Zaragoza played against Nástic de Tarragona and Cartagena. “Hopefully we get it right,” he said ahead of the match.

A DERBY

The Real Zaragoza coach did not hesitate to describe the match against Club Deportivo Teruel as a “derby.” “Both teams are from Aragon. The first thing is to show respect and be aware that, for one reason or another, both are where they deserve to be. Just as nobody gives you a place in the Primera División, if you are in Primera RFEF, it means you have not done something right,” he said.

Therefore, in his view, it is a derby. Something that is “wonderful” in football. And Real Zaragoza, as the clear favorites in this case, must win.

AT THE TOP

Real Zaragoza are sitting at the top of the table. That “helps,” and winning “is always positive.” However, this must continue throughout the season. Otherwise, promotion will not be achieved.

“You have to be leading at the end of the campaign. Deportivo, who were promoted as champions, were not top until matchday 19. You have to maintain your position in the table over the long term. We have to keep pushing in every training session, with the joy we bring to our work. That will take us to our objective,” the coach said.

Real Zaragoza need to win to remain at the top of the standings. With a victory, the Blanquillo side could even challenge for the leadership. The first hurdle to overcome is Teruel.
