A field named after him: Real Zaragoza remembers academy player Jorge Casado at its training ground

The new ‘Jorge Casado Roche Field’ now features a steel silhouette of the footballer, created by his own father, who made and donated the piece to the facility. The more than two-metre-high monument stands at one of the entrances to the pitch.

During the ceremony, the club’s general director, Guido Baroli, and the first-team captain, Ander, presented Jorge’s parents with a bouquet of flowers and a white shirt bearing his name and the number 2, the number the academy player usually wore in his matches.

In addition, the new name of the field will preside over the players’ exit. A commemorative plaque has been placed in the same area featuring one of Jorge’s favourite phrases: “If you can dream it, you can do it.”

JUVENIL B TAKES CENTER STAGE IN THE TRIBUTE

Juvenil B, the team Jorge belonged to, took part in a friendly match against a team made up of footballers from Aragón. The game served to remember the young player on a day when the team was supported by family members, coaches and club employees, players and the entire first-team staff.

Those also in attendance included the president of the Aragonese Football Federation, Manuel Torralba; Zaragoza City Council’s councillor for sport, Félix Brocate; sporting director Lalo Arantegui; academy director Javier Garcés; board member Guzmán Pérez-Ayo; and Santos Nagore, a representative of A.GAIN.

The day also featured a gesture of support for Yago Aparicio, the 19-year-old referee who was assaulted several weeks ago during a youth match in Pina de Ebro. Aparicio was part of the match officiating team and received a gift from Real Zaragoza during half-time.
