Fears confirmed for Ander Herrera as captain sidelined with lower back pain

Doubts over Ander Herrera's condition at Real Zaragoza have lingered since the Torremolinos game. Although there was no tear and the captain was able to complete part of training with the squad, the midfielder was left out of the squad against Cartagena due to back discomfort. The Blanquillos have now confirmed that he is suffering from persistent lower back pain.
Fears confirmed for Ander Herrera as captain sidelined with lower back pain

"Following the back discomfort Ander Herrera had been experiencing in recent days, the player underwent tests, which determined that he is suffering from persistent lower back pain. Ander will therefore soon undergo specific treatment to control his pain, and his progress will determine when he is available to rejoin the squad," the SAD said in a statement.

It remains to be seen when he can return to work under Ibai Gómez, but these types of injuries make it difficult to quickly regain full fitness. What is certain is that he will not be in Ibiza this Friday, meaning he will miss his second match of the season. This leaves the door open for Lucas Terrer, who is earning his place with strong performances in the double pivot alongside Peter Ademo, while Rubén Díez could also be deployed in that role alongside a more physical midfielder.

THE ONLY PLAYER IN THE TREATMENT ROOM

Ander Herrera is currently the only player in Real Zaragoza's treatment room. The rest of the squad are available for the upcoming match in Ibiza, a boost for the coach given that injuries and absences had been a recurring issue for the Blanquillos in the past.

The midfielder's injury is the second of the season after the one suffered by Edu Espiau. The striker was unavailable in Torremolinos, but his absence lasted just one match and he returned to group training last week.
