Nolasco argues that the left exploits these groups for electoral purposes and says that “the greatest real danger for homosexuals is the illegal, uncontrolled and mass immigration that you are importing.” Iglesias, meanwhile, accuses the Aragon government of leaving LGTBIQ+ people unprotected and of bowing to Vox’s demands.
IGLESIAS QUESTIONS THE REMOVAL OF FUNDING
Regional lawmaker Mónica Iglesias criticized Nolasco over the elimination of aid intended to prevent discrimination against the LGTBIQ+ community. Iglesias recalled that the budget allocation amounted to 161,000 euros in 2025 and funded four projects. She also denounced the reduction of the allocation from 611,000 to 516,000 euros.
Iglesias defended these initiatives as necessary because “there are people who suffer attacks for being who they are” and questioned the regional government’s decision to withdraw resources intended for their protection. She also explicitly asked whether the government intends to repeal or amend Aragon’s laws protecting LGTBIQ+ people.
The lawmaker framed the removal of this aid as part of what she considers a broader policy of cuts that also affects public services, pensions and support for vulnerable people. She also criticized the tax reform promoted by Vox and questioned whom it benefits. In her reply, she summed up her criticism of Nolasco in one sentence: “You are highly incompetent as a manager, and when incompetence is compounded by malice, the result is inevitably disastrous.”
NOLASCO LINKS ATTACKS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
Aragon’s deputy regional president and Vox leader in Aragon, Alejandro Nolasco, rejected Iglesias’s accusations and opposed funding this type of association. “Anyone who suffers any kind of discrimination should not go to the PSOE; they should go to the police,” he said. Nolasco said he condemns attacks based on sexual orientation, but accused the left of using the LGTBIQ+ community politically to attract votes.
Nolasco justified the changes to the aid by pointing out that sexual orientation had been linked to disability in previous calls for applications. He also argued that public resources are limited and questioned the allocation of grants to organizations that, in his view, have political ties to the left. In his remarks, he maintained that the state has instruments to assist victims.
In the final part of the debate, the Vox leader linked attacks on gay people to illegal immigration. According to Nolasco, “the greatest danger for homosexuals and for people living in Aragon” is “illegal, uncontrolled and mass immigration.” The deputy regional president argued that certain interpretations of Islam are incompatible with the rights of women and gay people, and accused the left of contradicting its rhetoric on protection with its immigration policies.
