Azcón even suggested that there was some kind of “secret deal” in which “they had shared out some little position.” He accused him of adopting all of the PSOE’s policies, while they do not defend depopulation as a criterion for regional funding, operating aid or the Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor.
“OUR HEART TOLD US TO RUN, BUT OUR HEAD DID NOT”
In response, CHA president Jorge Pueyo said that their “heart told them to run” in Teruel, but their head did not. “You are angry today because you know you could lose electoral support,” he said, before rejecting the idea that Chunta does not defend the province.
As examples, Pueyo said his party had demanded operating aid and a compensation fund for Teruel in Congress, and had presented various initiatives on depopulation, the Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor, outstanding state road projects, the inclusion of municipalities in Teruel province in aid for the DANA, and commuter rail services.
The CHA leader criticized the Aragón PP for “raising its finger” whenever Madrid tells it to. He also defended the fact that Chunta Aragonesista members “give their lives for Aragón,” referring to Joaquín Palacín and Labordeta. “People do not enter politics for money, but out of principle and to defend their land. So take a good look at yourselves,” he concluded.
AZCÓN ACCUSES PUEYO OF BETRAYING CHA
In his second reply, Jorge Azcón told Pueyo that he was the one who had become angry “when he heard two truths.” He also accused him of betraying CHA leaders and said dissenting voices would emerge within CHA, as has already happened with IU. “You reached an agreement in Teruel because you believe it is second-rate and because you have no chance of winning representation,” he added.
“You will get the result you deserve in Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel,” said the regional president, who challenged him to see whether other regional left-wing parties such as Compromís, the BNG or ERC would make the same decision not to run in smaller constituencies. “The only traitor to Aragón is you,” he said.
