Both prospective candidates will submit their endorsements this Monday in a bid to lead the list for the 2027 municipal elections in Zaragoza. However, it should be recalled that the Aragonese party is simultaneously holding talks with other groups to create a joint ticket, which could include ZeC, which does have representation on the city council, or Podemos.
Chuaquín Bernal headed the list in the last election, in which CHA won 4.74% of the vote, coming just short of entering the city council. A member of the party since 1996, Bernal is currently president of CHA in the Zaragoza district and has served on the National Committee in various roles since 2008.
Opposing him will be Luis Pastor, who was involved in the founding of Chunta. His return to the political forefront comes 19 years after leaving the city council, where he had served as a councillor since 1999. Between 2003 and 2007, he oversaw the Sports Department in the PSOE-CHA coalition government led by Belloch. During his term, he sought to promote the redevelopment of La Romareda, which was subsequently halted by the courts.
