Azcón denies a “direct link” between Marta Ríos’s role in the Aragon government and her move to QTS

Jorge Azcón has again defended his former Strategic Investments director, Marta Ríos. The Aragon president stressed that she held an interim position at MAZ between her time in the regional government and her new role at QTS Data Centers. He also said the Zaragoza executive will not work on the Calatorao data center campus because its development is “already complete”.

For this reason, Azcón denied that there was a “direct link”, arguing that she “did not leave the Aragon government to work on a project she had worked on”, he said in response to questions from the media during a press conference held to mark the final approval of the General Interest Plan of Aragon for the Rhodes project, promoted by this Blackstone subsidiary, which was introduced during his time in the regional government.

“Do you really think someone would hire a person for a month and a half if they knew that person would have another job in another month and a half?” Jorge Azcón told reporters, before asserting that “it is obvious that they would not”.

He therefore maintained that all of this was because QTS Data Centers was looking for “a specific profile” to work on various projects in Europe and had chosen her for “her professional merits”, as demonstrated by her time as Adidas’s managing director for Spain and Portugal between 2017 and 2022 and in the Aragon government.

The Aragon president also stressed that Ríos complies with “all the applicable incompatibility laws”, regulations that fall under the authority of the Spanish government. “Ms. Alegría does not have to ask the Aragon government to change the regulations. She has to ask Sánchez,” he said.
