Aragon to fund more than 70,000 cartridges to control rabbit population

The Government of Aragon will fund the purchase of more than 70,000 cartridges for wild rabbit population control in 2026. The aid will be granted to the Aragon Hunting Federation (FARCAZA) through the Directorate-General for Hunting and Fishing of the Department of Environment and Tourism.

The measure seeks to prevent and reduce the damage caused by high rabbit densities to agricultural holdings. The operations will be carried out in the municipalities listed in Annex II of Aragon's General Hunting Plan for the 2026-2027 season, and the cartridges will be used exclusively in legally authorized hunting methods.

According to the estimates included in the measure, the subsidy will allow FARCAZA to purchase around 70,000 cartridges. Every year, the Aragon Hunting Federation hunts nearly one million rabbits in Aragon as part of efforts to reduce the population of this species in the most affected areas.

REDUCING DAMAGE TO AGRICULTURAL HOLDINGS

The aim of these operations is to reduce rabbit densities in areas where their presence causes problems and to reconcile hunting management with the viability of agricultural holdings. The aid is specifically intended to finance the ammunition used in these control efforts.

The subsidy is part of the Department of Environment and Tourism's Strategic Subsidy Plan for 2024-2027. Purchases made from the express acceptance of the aid until November 25, 2026, may be included, provided that the cartridges have been supplied or made available to their recipients before that deadline.
