During the presentation at Helios, Sports Councillor Félix Brocate stressed that the sports complex is “the ideal venue” for holding this tournament. He also suggested that next year, with Zaragoza serving as European Capital of Sport, the competition could once again be held at the same venue. In addition, the councillor will referee one of the matches, owing to his background in handball.
The tournament, organized by A.D. La Jota, has received a warm welcome at Helios, and the organizers have expressed their appreciation that the veterans’ association chose the sports center for its 49th edition.
CARMELO POSTIGO, A LIVING LEGEND OF THE SPORT
One of the tournament’s main attractions is the participation of a genuine Aragonese legend of the sport, Carmelo Postigo. The veteran former player will play alongside his son Cristian, something that is “very special to me because I have always wanted to do it before retiring for good.”
Postigo came through the youth systems at Moncayo and Corazonistas schools before moving to Helios. At the club, he played 11 seasons in the top division and also represented Teka Santander and Tecnisa Alicante.
The participating teams, alongside Zaragoza’s veterans, are BM Ademur, EON Alicante, BM Veteranos Riscar, BM Móstoles and Veteranos Navarra. All the teams will play one another in 15-minute matches to determine the winner of a tournament that is particularly special for fans of the sport.
