Stephanie Mawuli's new life away from Casademont Zaragoza: Avenida's leading player

The change of scenery has not affected Stephanie Mawuli. After two seasons at Casademont Zaragoza, the Japanese player joined Meins Avenida this summer and has become the leading figure in the club's new project. The power forward is averaging 18 points, 5.5 rebounds and a 22.5 valuation rating after the first two rounds of the Liga Femenina Endesa, earning MVP honors in both games for Raquel Romo's team.

In her official debut with the Salamanca side on the opening day of the league season, Mawuli was part of the starting five against Cadi La Seu and was the game's standout player, recording a valuation rating of 25. The Japanese player thus made her Avenida debut in a Salamanca victory (73-57), scoring 16 points with a perfect 9/9 from the free-throw line, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out two assists.

That outstanding performance was followed this past Wednesday by another impressive display in the second round. Despite Avenida's defeat in Valencia (82-57), Mawuli was the second-highest-rated player in the game with a valuation rating of 20 and the contest's leading scorer, finishing with 20 points, including an impressive 4/7 from three-point range. Her high level of performance has made her the player most used by Raquel Romo so far for the Salamanca side.

After beginning the season as Avenida's main leader, Mawuli will not have to wait long to face her former team. The Japanese player will take on Casademont in the fifth round of the league season, when Cantero's team visits Salamanca. The power forward's reunion with the Marea Roja and the Príncipe Felipe arena will take place in round 21.

HER TIME IN ZARAGOZA

Over two seasons wearing the red-and-black jersey, the Japanese player made a total of 114 appearances for the Aragonese club, becoming a key part of Carlos Cantero's plans. During her time with Casademont, Mawuli won the Spanish Super Cup, a EuroLeague bronze medal and two league runner-up finishes.

In addition, after learning of her departure from Zaragoza this past summer when her contract expired, the Japanese player offered an emotional farewell: "I want to thank the fans and my teammates, who have always helped and supported me, even during difficult times for everyone. I love this city and I will miss you all very much."
