Historic sanction in Aragonese football: Federation closes Pina de Ebro ground for youth matches all season

The Competition Committee of the Royal Aragonese Football Federation has imposed a tough, exemplary sanction on Pina de Ebro after a 19-year-old referee was assaulted following the match against C.D. Unión La Jota Vadorrey. The body has decided to close the club’s facilities until the end of the season, June 2027, for youth matches.

In addition, Pina de Ebro has been fined 1,400 euros, docked three points and warned that it could be expelled from the competition if it commits another serious or very serious offence. Finally, the RFAF has instructed the club to prevent the people identified as being involved in the brawl during the match in question from accessing its facilities.

Pina de Ebro must find a new ground where its youth teams can play their matches and has until 10:00 a.m. on October 13 to inform the Federation of its new facilities for the remainder of the season.

SANCTIONS AGAINST CLUB MEMBERS

Players and members of the Zaragoza-based club have also received separate sanctions following everything that happened. Pina de Ebro’s No. 1 player has been handed a 20-match suspension for delivering "several kicks unrelated to play after being sent off, and several punches when the victim got up from the ground, respectively," according to the match report. The team’s No. 17 player has also been banned from playing for six months "for chasing the referee at the end of the match, berating him and kicking him in an attempt to trip him up."

Coach Jacobo Avelladed Morelló has been given a four-month suspension of his licence for "failing to protect the referee at the end of the match, on the way to the dressing rooms, in circumstances involving serious risk, which subsequently materialised," as well as a 40-euro fine. In addition, assistants Víctor Labarta López and Miguel Antonio Salvador Abós have each been handed a one-match suspension for "disrespectful attitudes towards the referee during the match" and a 10-euro fine.
