Helena Pueyo on her debut against Casademont Zaragoza: "It is emotional because of my last two seasons"

Sometimes, destiny is unpredictable. After spending two magical seasons at Casademont Zaragoza, where she won the affection of the Marea Roja and established herself as one of the most talented young players in Spanish basketball, Helena Pueyo left for Valencia Basket this summer after her contract with the Aragonese club expired. She will now face her former team in her debut in Valencia's orange jersey, with a title at stake. She spoke about the occasion on Tuesday during her presentation as the club's new player.

"I am one hundred percent focused on this and I am eager to start training with the team, competing and winning the first title, but it is emotional because of my last two seasons," Pueyo said of a game that will open the Spanish Super Cup this Saturday at 5:15 p.m. and decide the tournament's first finalist, with Casademont defending the title it won last season.

"It means a lot to me to be here today. Arriving in a new city, at a new club and, above all, beginning a new chapter that I am really looking forward to," said the Spanish international, who held her first training session with the orange-clad side this past Monday after winning bronze at the World Cup. "Being here is a reward, and I know it is a great responsibility. Hopefully, everything will continue along the same lines as in recent years," she added.

COACH AND TEAMMATES

Pueyo will thus be reunited with Valencia Basket's new coach, Javi Torralba, with whom she previously worked at Siglo XXI. "We have a very exciting challenge ahead of us, and what I am most looking forward to is getting started, enjoying it with the fans, growing as a team, improving, learning and, obviously, meeting up with Javi again after so many years," said the Balearic guard, who will also share a team with Elena Buenavida, Raquel Carrera and Alicia Flórez, her national-team teammates at the World Cup, where Spain won bronze.
