Casademont Zaragoza Runs Riot in Gernika: 108 Points and a Record Night at Its Cursed Venue

The goal was to break the curse, and Casademont Zaragoza did so in emphatic fashion. Without a win at the venue since 2022, the Aragonese club put all its ghosts to rest in Gernika, turning a routine Liga Femenina Endesa game into a historic night for the red-and-white side. Casademont Zaragoza not only returned from Gernika with a convincing victory, but also set a collection of records along the way.

The most important and eye-catching record can be found directly on the scoreboard. Carlos Cantero's team, fueled by an outstanding offensive display, reached 108 points, the highest-ever total scored by Casademont's women's team in a game. The previous record stood at the 104 points the red-and-white side scored in February 2021 against Club Deportivo Promete of Logroño at the Príncipe Felipe.

Amid the red-and-white onslaught, one name stood above the rest: Aisha Sheppard. The American shooting guard became the game's leading figure after scoring 31 points to tie the women's team's all-time individual scoring record, previously held by Markeisha Gatling, who scored 31 points against Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre on matchday 19 of the 2020-21 season. The American also produced extraordinary numbers from beyond the arc, going 7-for-8 on three-pointers, and finished with a performance rating of 30.

Two new records in a win at Maloste that also produced another historic mark for the Aragonese team. The victory over Gernika became the third-biggest away win in Casademont's history, putting the finishing touch to a night in which the red-and-white side not only added another league victory, but also left behind a collection of memorable marks at their ultimate cursed venue.

BREAKING THE CURSE

After suffering four defeats in their previous four visits, Casademont feasted at Maloste, in a performance that went far beyond Sheppard's contribution. Mariona Ortiz also joined the night's record-setters by reaching 10 assists, falling just three short of her own record as a player for the Aragonese team in a single game.

It is precisely the collective dimension that fully explains such a commanding performance. As many as nine players coached by Carlos Cantero reached double figures in performance rating, reflecting the shared responsibility of a Casademont team that dished out 35 assists, made 17 three-pointers and recorded an impressive overall performance rating of 147.
