Casademont Zaragoza aim to restore the Felipe fortress after seven wins in their last 10 home openers

After a disastrous season at home, Casademont Zaragoza want to turn the Príncipe Felipe into a fortress again, with the demanding league opener against Valencia Basket offering the first chance to start rebuilding it. In an interview with Aragón Digital, Trae Bell-Haynes stressed the importance of being strong at home and restoring the bond with a venue that should become one of the Aragonese side’s main sources of support this season.

Moreover, the game comes at an especially exciting moment for Casademont. The Aragonese side is a completely different team after the sweeping overhaul of its roster during the summer and has already offered an initial glimpse of its potential on the opening matchday. Gonzalo García de Vitoria’s team stormed the difficult La Laguna Tenerife court thanks to a Justin Jaworski basket virtually on the buzzer, a victory that allows them to approach their first game against the Red Tide with confidence and renewed excitement.

Therefore, becoming a strong home team will be one of the keys if this new project is to take steps forward during the season. The Príncipe Felipe must recover the essence of previous seasons through the connection between team and fans and once again become the setting where Casademont earns a large share of the victories that help it look up the standings and, when the time comes, dream of bigger and more stimulating objectives.

The first test will not be easy, as the reigning ACB champions will be on the other side. A revamped Valencia Basket will demand the highest level from the Aragonese team from the outset, especially given that they surprisingly lost to Lleida at home on the opening matchday. Even so, the precedents offer grounds for optimism: in their last 10 league openers at home, Casademont have recorded seven wins and lost on only three occasions.

SEVEN WINS IN THE LAST 10 OPENERS

The figures from the last decade show a favorable trend for Casademont in their first home games of each ACB season. The most recent precedent came in the 2025/2026 season, when the red-and-black side defeated Baskonia 107-88 on the opening matchday. A year earlier, in the 2024/2025 opener, they also began with a win against Lleida, whom they beat 101-91.

In 2023/2024, the home debut came on the second matchday and also ended in victory, this time against Unicaja by 100-92. The positive run had also begun in previous seasons, with wins against Manresa (98-91) in 2021/2022, Gran Canaria (88-71) in 2020/2021, Obradoiro (96-64) in 2019/2020 and Acunsa GBC (76-73) in 2018/2019.

The three defeats during this period came in 2022/2023, when Murcia won 64-81; in 2017/2018, when Gran Canaria claimed a narrow 95-99 victory; and in 2016/2017, precisely against Valencia Basket. The Valencian side won 68-80 at the Príncipe Felipe and went on to claim the ACB title that season.
