Still taking in what he has achieved, Muñoz explained that the gold medal is the result of intense work by the players and coaching staff to find their best form. The international player recalled that Spain was not among the favorites, although competing at home provided added motivation. He also highlighted the achievement of overcoming several of the main contenders for the title.
The reception also served as an opportunity to recall how Muñoz prepared for the World Championship. During July and August, the player trained at the Salduba court to arrive in the best possible condition for a competition that, for Muñoz himself, was a “dream” that has now become a reality.
MUÑOZ'S YEARS OF GROWTH
For Balonmano Dominicos, Muñoz's arrival with a gold medal holds special significance given the short history of its wheelchair handball project. In 2021, when the club still had no players in this discipline, it invited the Spanish national team to take part in an exhibition that would eventually lead to the creation of the team. Carlos Muñoz, of course, was one of those present at the event.
Five years later, the black-and-white club welcomes one of its players as a world champion. In this regard, Carlos Langarita, sporting director of Balonmano Dominicos Zaragoza, conveyed the “pride” the achievement brings to an organization reaching a goal that “seemed unthinkable,” extending the gold medal's recognition to all the people and organizations that have helped develop the project.
