"I am very happy to be able to continue with Movistar Team for another four years. Since I arrived, I have felt very comfortable and have had the confidence of the entire team to continue growing and improving. Knowing that we will continue together over the coming years gives me tremendous peace of mind and, above all, a great desire to keep working and taking steps forward," Castrillo said about his contract extension.
HIS BREAKTHROUGH IN 2024
Castrillo joined Movistar Team after breaking through in 2024 with two stage victories at La Vuelta, demonstrating his quality in the mountains and his ability to compete at the highest level on the most demanding days. In his first season with Movistar Team, he secured two top-10 finishes in WorldTour stage races—7th at the UAE Tour and 9th at the Tour de Suisse—competed in his first Tour de France, where he excelled in the time trial, and came close to another stage win at La Vuelta, finishing 2nd on the stage ending in Belagua.
However, it was in 2026 that the rider from Jaca took another step forward in his development, demonstrating his potential beyond the mountains. The Aragonese rider was crowned Spanish time trial champion in June, achieved three top-10 stage finishes in the Tour de France and subsequently played a key role at La Vuelta, helping Enric Mas secure overall victory.
