The Aragonese derby between S.D. Huesca and C.D. Teruel returns after more than 20 years

Primera RFEF has scheduled six Aragonese derbies this season. The first will be played at Pinilla this Sunday at 7 p.m. between C.D. Teruel and S.D. Huesca. The rivalry between the two sides will officially return to the football calendar after 22 years without a competitive meeting.

The last meeting took place in 2004 in the old Third Division and ended with a 3-1 Huesca victory at El Alcoraz. That match marked a turning point in this Aragonese rivalry, as the Huesca side moved up a division while Teruel spent many of the following years in the lower tiers.

However, the most recent encounter is not particularly distant, as the two teams met during preseason in Tardienta. The match ended 3-1 in favor of Raúl Jardiel's side, with goals from Diego Collado, Agustín Juárez and Diego Gómez, while Sesé pulled one back for Kiko Ramírez's team.

46 MATCHES IN TOTAL

The first meeting between the two sides took place during the 1961-1962 season in the Third Division. Since then, they have faced each other 45 more times, the vast majority in the 20th century, when both teams tended to play in the same divisions.

The head-to-head record is relatively even, although Huesca have won more often, with 24 victories compared with Teruel's 15, while there have been just seven draws.

After 22 years, the fixture will once again be played competitively, with Pinilla expected to provide a spectacular backdrop this Sunday as both teams need a win to halt their poor runs of form.
