Aday Mara begins full preseason with the Oklahoma City Thunder two weeks before the NBA season

The countdown to Aday Mara officially becoming the first player from Aragon to play in the NBA is shrinking by the day. Before making his debut, however, the Zaragoza-born center must complete the regular preseason, as the entire roster does not play together in the Summer League. The Oklahoma City Thunder begin their preseason in the early hours of Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans at 2 a.m. peninsular Spanish time.

The preseason for the franchise coached by Mark Diagneault will be completed with four more games before the NBA season begins. The Thunder will face the Milwaukee Bucks on the 8th, the Atlanta Hawks on the 13th, the Indiana Pacers on the 14th and will conclude their preseason on the 16th against the Houston Rockets.

This will be Aday's first real test with his new teammates and an opportunity to show that he can earn significant playing time in his first year in the world's best league. His main competitor will be Isaiah Hartenstein, who was re-signed this summer.

DEBUT AGAINST WEMBANYAMA

The NBA has shown great judgment in choosing the Thunder's opening game by pairing them with the San Antonio Spurs on October 21. Both franchises are title contenders and the leading favorites to reach the Western Conference Finals this season.

There is also the Victor Wembanyama factor. The Frenchman was unstoppable in last season's conference finals and prevented Diagneault's team from competing for its second title. Aday himself has joined the Thunder to try to stop the Frenchman and has already been nicknamed the 'Wemby-stopper', ensuring plenty of intrigue in the Aragonese player's debut.
