A First Gift for Pinilla

A fundamental, memorable first win of the season for Club Deportivo Teruel. Joserra's goal secured a 1-0 home victory at Pinilla, where the fans played a crucial role. Against an Alcorcón side chasing top spot, Teruel knew how to suffer when necessary and seize its chance.

That said, it was by no means a walk in the park. The match, as was clear from the outset, was going to be extremely difficult for a Teruel side looking to climb out of the bottom places in the table. Alcorcón, who were playing for the chance to end the day top, did not seem like the ideal opponent. There was a certain tension between the two sides, but the visitors were in control while Teruel played its cards.

THE MATCH

One of those cards was the red card they asked the FVS to review for Aparicio, which the referee generously downgraded to a yellow for a foul. Teruel had to win by using the weapons at its disposal, and this was one of them. The clock showed the 29th minute.

Little by little, the visiting side began to take control, both in possession and in terms of chances. However, it was Teruel who took the lead. A sensational cross from Gallardo in the 42nd minute was finished by Joserra in equally spectacular fashion. He made it 1-0 for Teruel.

Alcorcón had two more chances before the break. A handball by Nicholas inside the area was reviewed, but the referee indicated that there was no offence. Teruel breathed a sigh of relief. The same happened in stoppage time at the end of the first half, when Relu cleared a shot off the goal line with Zarco beaten and just a metre from the line. Teruel therefore went into the break 1-0 ahead.

SECOND HALF

Teruel focused on resisting, but it was far from easy. The second half began with no shortage of scares. Relu and Zarco made consecutive goal-line saves, one in the 67th minute and the other in the 68th. But despite creating chances, Alcorcón could not find a way past the Aragonese side.

Time passed. So did the seven minutes of added time. Teruel's defence stayed compact, closed down spaces and forced Alcorcón to attack down the flanks, where the visitors were always uncomfortable. It all paid off so well that, when the referee brought the match to an end, the resounding victory stayed at Pinilla.
