Their removal depends precisely on the weather. If it rains or the flowers begin to deteriorate and produce unpleasant odors, workers will have to dismantle the mantle earlier than planned. The city government's intention is to keep it in place throughout the festivities so that residents of Zaragoza and tourists can continue to admire it, although weather conditions will determine the final schedule.
TRANSFORMATION INTO COMPOST
Once the structure has been dismantled, the bouquets do not go straight into the trash. Workers collect them and transport them to the Zaragoza Urban Waste Treatment Center (CTRUZ), where the plant material undergoes a process of transformation into compost. In this way, the flowers that thousands of people have laid at the feet of the Virgin get a second life.
The result is a natural fertilizer that can be used to nourish parks, gardens and other green areas of the city. Thus, the Offering not only leaves behind one of the most recognizable scenes of the festivities, but also enables organic waste to be put to use. In addition, some people take advantage of the dismantling to take flowers home as souvenirs, while baskets and other privately owned items can be recovered by following the established municipal procedure.
