Behind this installation is artist José Miguel Larraz Gabás, who has created a work in which images and sound engage in dialogue with one of the most distinctive spaces in Zaragoza’s cemetery. Through three synchronized 4K screens, visitors embark on a visual journey through the transformation of matter, memory and what remains as time passes.
Fossils, clouds, plants, people, sculptures and eroded surfaces follow one another in a composition that also incorporates elements from the cemetery itself. They are seemingly very different images, but they are connected by the same idea: everything that exists is constantly changing. Matter takes shape, generates life and preserves traces of the past, although sooner or later those structures change or disappear.
A REFLECTION ON LIFE AND DEATH IN THE YARZA CHAPEL
Rather than turning to familiar funerary images and symbols, "Polvo" offers an artistic perspective on the transitory nature of existence. The installation encourages visitors to pause before what normally goes unnoticed and observe how time transforms natural landscapes as well as bodies, objects and memories.
The installation is part of the activities organized by Zaragoza City Council for All Saints’ Day, a program that invites visitors to discover the cemetery from a cultural and heritage perspective as well.
