The 17th-Century Period Film That Will Turn Teruel Province Into a Film Set

Aragon continues to be one of directors’ favorite locations for setting their film projects. Well-known and successful movies such as "Kingdom of Heaven," "The Promise," "Palm Trees in the Snow" and the recent "Sirat"—which represented Spain at the Oscars—were filmed partly or entirely in the autonomous community. Teruel province is currently hosting the shoot of another international film that will soon reach cinemas.
The 17th-Century Period Film That Will Turn Teruel Province Into a Film Set

The team behind "The Possessed," the third feature film by Bosnian-Dutch screenwriter and director Ena Sendijarevic, has arrived in Teruel province to shoot several scenes for this period drama about witch hunts. After filming in the Barcelona area in mid-September, production will move to the municipalities of Villalba Baja, Camañas and Aliaga.

Teruel province will travel back to the 17th century to serve as the setting for the story of two women who, fleeing witch hunts, create a refuge at the ends of the world until a man becomes their involuntary prisoner and triggers a dangerous love triangle. Starring Ariane Labed, the film’s cast is completed by three young talents: Suzy Bemba, Khalil Gharbia and Ji-Min Park.

A FEMINIST DRAMA

"The Possessed" is presented as a feminist drama with a strongly sensual character, built around the chemistry of its cast and contemporary political implications that transcend the historical context in which it unfolds. Teruel’s spectacular landscapes complete what is set to be an auteur work of great artistic value.

The project has arrived in the province through the Teruel Film Commission of the Teruel Provincial Council and has received support with permits, facilities and logistics from Teruel City Council, Camañas City Council, Aliaga City Council, Villarquemado City Council and the Aragon Film Commission.
