Ruth Iniesta continues to shine in Spain’s opera scene, opening the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía season in Valencia

Ruth Iniesta continues to take important steps in her career and establish herself as one of the leading figures in Spain’s opera scene. The Aragonese soprano will open the 2026-2027 season at Valencia’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, where she will perform Micaëla in Georges Bizet’s "Carmen" from October 2 to 15. It will be the Aragonese singer’s seventh appearance at the Valencia opera house, where she has become a regular presence in the program in recent years.

For the second consecutive season, Iniesta will also begin her artistic schedule at Les Arts, coinciding with the theater’s first major operatic production of the season. This time, she will take part in the new production of "Carmen", conducted by Michele Spotti and directed for the stage by Ted Huffman, in a cast led by Vasilisa Berzhanskaya as Carmen, Charles Castronovo as Don José and Davide Luciano as Escamillo. Performances will take place on October 2, 4, 7, 10, 12 and 15 in the Main Hall.

Ruth Iniesta will portray Micaëla, one of the main lyric roles in Bizet’s opera and the dramatic counterpoint to "Carmen". The production, new to Les Arts and the Grand Théâtre de Genève, offers an interpretation far removed from traditional costumbrismo and focused on the tension between individual freedom, social order and destiny.

This return strengthens the soprano’s close relationship with Les Arts, a stage she has repeatedly returned to throughout her career and where she also began her artistic season last year. Her continued presence in València confirms an already well-established collaboration with one of Spain’s leading opera houses.

The 2026-2027 season will then take Ruth Iniesta to new national and international engagements. Among them is the premiere of "Las trece rosas rojas", by Cecilia Bercovich, at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, as well as her returns to the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Teatro La Fenice in Venice. The soprano will also take part in a new recording for the Teatro de la Zarzuela label, dedicated to the Spanish lyric genre, alongside the Orchestra of the Community of Madrid, conducted by José Miguel Pérez-Sierra.
