From Virginia Woolf to the Secrets of Motherhood, Women Take Center Stage at Teatro de las Esquinas

The challenges of motherhood, Virginia Woolf's secrets, the fears that accompany us every day and even a meteorite capable of awakening an entire town's creativity are among the stories coming to Teatro de las Esquinas with the tenth edition of Mujeres a Escena, a series that will once again place female talent and creativity at the heart of its November program.

The new edition will feature four performances between November 4 and 25, all at 7:00 p.m., with productions ranging from documentary theater and autofiction to contemporary dance and object theater. The works will tell stories that explore emotions, identity and the contradictions of today's society.

FROM MOTHERHOOD TO AN UNKNOWN VIRGINIA WOOLF

The series will open on Wednesday, November 4, with "La ciencia de las flores," a show written and performed by Ángela Encinar that addresses a reality that is still difficult to discuss: infertility and the challenges of becoming a mother. Through the experiences of three women, the actress combines humor, poetry and emotion to discuss assisted reproductive treatments, obstetric violence and pregnancy loss.

The second event will take place on Tuesday, November 10, with "La doble vida de Virginia Woolf," a play that sets out to reveal a lesser-known side of the British writer. Performed by Roser Pujol and Balbino Lacosta, the story imagines a meeting between Woolf and psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung in an opera box.

Starting with an apparently casual conversation, the two characters reflect on social conventions, identity and gender differences, while also making room for humor. The play was written by Olga Amaris and directed by Áurea Martínez.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE AND A METEORITE THAT AWAKENS CREATIVITY

On Wednesday, November 18, "Delicada caída" will arrive, a contemporary dance production created and directed by Carmen Werner. The performance explores the fears that are part of everyday life: fear of illness, death, financial problems and unexpected changes.

Through movement, the work addresses situations in which worry and stress can push a person to the limit. Werner also performs alongside Raquel Jara, Cristian López, Adrián López and Alejandro Morata.

The series will close on Wednesday, November 25, with "Cosas que caen del cielo," a work created and directed by Dora Cantero that draws on a real event that took place in Molina de Segura (Murcia) in 1858: the fall of a meteorite.

Based on that historical event, the performance builds a fantastical story in which the space rock has a strange effect on local residents, who feel an irresistible need to write, invent stories and create poetry. The production combines object theater, live music, humor and magical realism, and received the Best Playwriting Award at FETEN 2026.

TICKETS FOR MUJERES A ESCENA IN ZARAGOZA

All four performances will take place at Teatro de las Esquinas at 7:00 p.m. General advance tickets cost 19.50 euros, while tickets purchased on the day of the performance will cost 21.50 euros.

The theater also offers passes for attending several performances. Those who purchase tickets for all four shows can do so for 16.50 euros each, while tickets for two or three performances cost 18.50 euros each.
