The story began in Los Angeles while Bunbury was filming the music video for "La próxima vez no habrá próxima vez" with Boadella. During a break, the director told him about his fourth film: a zombie story with a western feel, a gang of deranged girls and Danny Trejo in the lead role. The singer then offered to let him use some of his songs if they fit the project.
"ZAMBA PARA OLVIDAR" FIT AGAINST ALL ODDS
Bunbury has explained that at the time he did not believe any of the songs from his latest album, De un siglo anterior, could work in a film of this kind. However, Boadella listened to "Zamba para olvidar" and quickly found a scene in which the song fit.
The proposal went even further when the director suggested that he appear in the film. Bunbury admits that he had never intended to work in cinema and doubted his own ability to do so, but the opportunity to spend a few days taking part in a horror film eventually convinced him. According to the musician, Boadella eased his concerns by telling him that he would only have one line of dialogue and a very simple action.
His part was filmed in a single day, and some of that footage is precisely what has now been used to create the music video for Zamba para Olvidar. The result, as the artist himself describes it, lies somewhere between a trailer for the film and a promotional video for the song.
A SONG FROM "DE UN SIGLO ANTERIOR" THAT WILL END UP IN THE CINEMA
"Zamba para olvidar" is the eighth song on ‘De un siglo anterior’, Bunbury’s 14th studio album. The record marks his second exploration of Hispanic and Latin American roots and folk music after Cuentas Pendientes, released in 2025, and closes this chapter before the artist embarks on new musical paths.
The film is currently in post-production and is scheduled for release in 2027. Until then, the music video will already offer a glimpse of some scenes from Stray Cats: Symphony of the Dead and Bunbury’s unexpected film debut, an experience he has described as “fantastic” and one he says he is proud to be part of.
