This Aragonese town has launched its own video game to tackle litter

La Fragatina has a new mission: eliminate litter and keep the streets of Fraga clean. This is the aim of 'Fraga Invaders', a free video game developed by Víctor Bonet with the help of artificial intelligence to raise awareness among residents about the importance of civic responsibility and caring for public spaces.

Inspired by classic alien shooter games, this retro-style adventure replaces extraterrestrials with much more everyday enemies, such as scraps of paper, banana peels, dog excrement and abandoned furniture. The video game is already available to play on any computer or mobile phone, directly from the browser and without the need to download an app.

SIX LEVELS TO ELIMINATE LITTER

The protagonist will have to face the waste by firing drops of water and soap across six progressively difficult levels. During the game, players can obtain upgrades such as protective shields, extra lives or the 'Super Manguerazo', a special attack capable of eliminating an entire row of enemies. The final challenge will be a huge rubbish container overflowing with waste, which players will have to defeat to receive the message "You did it! Fraga is clean."

The adventure takes place across five settings inspired by recognizable locations in Fraga, recreated with pixelated graphics and retro music. The game also includes educational messages such as "Take bulky items to the Recycling Centre" and the slogan "Keeping Fraga clean is everyone's responsibility," which appears in seven languages: Spanish, Catalan, English, French, Bulgarian, Romanian and Arabic.

A VIDEO GAME CREATED WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Beyond its playful nature, 'Fraga Invaders' stands out for having been developed without any prior programming knowledge, using Visual Studio Code and artificial intelligence tools. Its creator, Víctor Bonet, used the method known as vibe coding, which makes it possible to generate and modify code through instructions written in natural language.

The project involved designing characters, levels, controls and game mechanics, as well as testing and adapting its operation to different devices. Through this initiative, it combines entertainment, technology and civic awareness to remind people that keeping Fraga clean is everyone's responsibility.
