Somontano has thus concluded the earliest harvest in its history, both in terms of its start and finish, with more than 17 million kilos of grapes. The figure exceeds the forecast made at the beginning of the campaign and restores the average of more than 17 million kilos recorded over the past ten years.
The average yield this campaign reached 5,155 kilos per hectare, above the 4,602 Kgs/ha recorded in the 2025 harvest.
Picking began with the first kilos of white chardonnay grapes and ended with cabernet sauvignon, one of the fifteen varieties used as the raw material for Somontano wines.
MORE THAN 17 MILLION KILOS OF GRAPES
The harvest produced a final total of 17,091,192 kilos of grapes. Of the total, 57% were red grapes, led by the cabernet sauvignon (2,866,730 Kgs) and merlot (2,608,901 Kgs) varieties. They were followed by tempranillo (1,585,076 Kgs), red grenache (1,360,472 Kgs), syrah (991,495 Kgs), pinot noir (116,380 Kgs), moristel (104,560 Kgs) and parraleta (80,641 Kgs).
Picking began with the first kilos of white chardonnay grapes
Among the 43% corresponding to the white grapes picked, the chardonnay variety ranked first, with 4,534,909 Kgs. It was followed by gewürztraminer (1,677,374 Kgs), sauvignon blanc (547,420 Kgs), white grenache (278,658 Kgs), riesling (226,280 Kgs), macabeo (106,569 Kgs) and alcañón (5,727 Kgs).
The grapes' good sanitary condition, along with the harvesting of each variety and plot at the optimum stage of ripeness, ensured the quality for which Somontano wines are known.
