The session will be led by physician and psychiatrist Miguel Ángel de Uña Mateos and aims to create a space for reflection, information and awareness around an issue affecting an increasing number of people and which both organizations consider one of today’s main public health challenges.
DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND STRESS
The event is being held as part of the commemoration of World Mental Health Day, an observance that seeks to reduce the stigma associated with mental disorders, improve public understanding and facilitate access to specialized resources. According to data included in the press release, more than one billion people worldwide live with a mental disorder, and only one in three people with depression receives professional care.
The situation also presents significant figures in Spain. Nearly 30% of people over the age of 15 show depressive symptoms of varying intensity, while 8% suffer from severe depression. In addition, more than one in five people say they have needed care for problems related to mental health or emotional well-being during the past year.
Anxiety, stress and depression are among the most common problems and can affect emotional well-being, personal relationships, education, work and quality of life. The Red Cross therefore stresses the importance of maintaining healthy habits, taking care of diet and rest, engaging in physical activity and seeking professional support in the face of any emotional or psychological difficulty.
Through this initiative, the Red Cross and the Huesca Official College of Physicians aim to strengthen awareness and combat prejudice surrounding mental health, while promoting greater understanding of the importance of asking for help and accessing specialized care when necessary.
