The protest will take place at noon on the A-1223, at kilometer point 41.78, next to the level crossing located between Alberuela de Tubo, Sodeto and Poleñino station. The demonstration is being organized by Black Tuesdays, the Platform for the A-1239, the A-130 Citizens’ Platform and other social movements calling for roads that meet adequate safety standards.
The organizers denounce that the A-1223, which connects the Venta de Ballerías junction with Poleñino station, has numerous potholes and a severely deteriorated surface. They are therefore demanding its urgent resurfacing while a comprehensive improvement project is drawn up, as well as its inclusion in the investment plan announced by the Government of Aragon and the Huesca Provincial Council, from which it has been excluded.
THEY DEMAND IMPROVEMENTS TO OTHER HUESCA ROADS
The platforms warn that the situation on the A-1223 reflects the problems affecting other roads in the province. They include the A-1239, between Albalate de Cinca and Esplús, where the announced works would affect only part of the route, as well as the A-131, between Huerto and Monflorite, and the roads in the Vió Valley.
The groups also criticize the lack of specific deadlines for carrying out the improvements and consider it unacceptable that some roads could remain in this condition until 2028, based on the deadlines they say have been communicated to them. They are therefore calling for a coordinated response from the competent authorities that results in concrete works and commitments.
THEY CALL FOR THE A-1223 LEVEL CROSSING TO BE REMOVED
In addition to resurfacing the road, the organizers will ask the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to build an overpass to eliminate the existing railway level crossing on the A-1223. They are calling for this infrastructure to be studied and for an action timetable to be established to improve road safety.
“The roads cannot continue to wait while those who travel on them every day face potholes, a deteriorated surface and inadequate safety,” says Pedro Loscertales, spokesperson for the organizers. “We are not asking for privileges: we are demanding urgent action,” he adds, warning that they will continue their mobilizations until they secure concrete commitments and solutions.
The platforms have called on residents, road users and social representatives to take part in Saturday’s demonstration and highlight a demand aimed at improving travel safety throughout Huesca province.
