A beloved Pyrenees hostel says goodbye after 26 years welcoming travelers: on sale for €787,000

Many travelers exploring the Aragonese Pyrenees choose hostels to rest before putting their boots back on and continuing through the mountains. One such establishment, El Último Bucardo, in the Huesca village of Linás de Broto, in the Sobrarbe region, has become a regular stop for visitors to Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. After more than a quarter-century of history, the hostel is now announcing the end of an era: its owners are retiring after 26 years in business.

They themselves shared the news through the establishment's social media accounts. "We are retiring!" they announced, before looking back on the past 26 years, during which they welcomed and enjoyed "friendships, groups, celebrations, events...". Throughout that long journey, they explain, they worked to ensure that everyone who crossed their doors found there "a little piece of their safe place".

The news has prompted numerous reactions from customers and friends, who wanted to say goodbye to an establishment that many already consider part of their memories of the Pyrenees. "The Pyrenees will never be the same for us without the team that made up El Último Bucardo. How much we are going to miss you!", one of them lamented. Others spoke of the sadness of losing what they consider "our home in the Pyrenees" and recalled years of visits, conversations about the mountains and talks "putting the world to rights". "No one can take away the good fortune of having known and experienced 'El Bucardo'," another message said, wishing the owners well in this new chapter.

THE FUTURE OF EL ÚLTIMO BUCARDO: LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE OVER

The owners' farewell does not necessarily have to mean the end of El Último Bucardo. After 26 years running the establishment, they want this house at the gateway to Ordesa to begin a new chapter in someone else's hands. "We are bringing a chapter of our lives to an end and, with emotion, handing over this noble house... it is for sale. Would you like to fill this house with your life?", they explain in the same message announcing their retirement.

That handover already has a price. The property is listed on Idealista for 787,000 euros, after being reduced from 828,000 euros. It is a 983-square-meter building spread over five floors that currently operates as a hostel and retains the facilities needed to continue an accommodation and hospitality business.

Inside, there are 15 rooms and 20 bathrooms. Fourteen of the rooms have been renovated, are exterior-facing and have their own bathrooms, while the top floor contains another large room. The building also has a reception area, several multipurpose spaces, a kitchen for guests and a professional kitchen, as well as a dining room with capacity for 60 people, a bar and a lounge area. Outside, the property is completed by a garden and several terraces, along with a storage room. The entire property is now awaiting a new owner to perhaps write the next chapter of an accommodation establishment linked for more than a quarter of a century to those exploring this corner of the Aragonese Pyrenees.

LINÁS DE BROTO, A LANDSCAPE AT THE GATEWAY TO ORDESA

El Último Bucardo is located in Linás de Broto, a small village belonging to the municipality of Torla-Ordesa, in the Sobrarbe region. Set at an altitude of around 1,232 meters, the village retains the characteristic appearance of the small settlements of the Huesca Pyrenees, surrounded by meadows, forests and some of the most spectacular mountains in northern Aragon.

Among the places worth visiting is the Church of San Miguel, located outside the urban area and surrounded by meadows and trees. The church has medieval origins and stands out especially for its 13th-century defensive tower, which has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC). The hermitages of San Benito and Santa Eugenia can also be found around the village.

But much of Linás de Broto's appeal lies in its location. The village is very close to Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, making it a good base from which to explore this part of the Pyrenees and enjoy its landscapes and mountain routes. In this privileged setting, El Último Bucardo has welcomed families, groups, schoolchildren, hikers and travelers for 26 years, making the establishment more than just a place to spend the night. Now, with its owners' retirement, one chapter is closing while the house awaits someone willing to begin the next.
