Barbastro City Council has equipped the police force with 22 portable radios, three units installed in patrol vehicles and a fixed radio at police headquarters. A new communications antenna has also been installed at the Town Hall to improve the system’s performance.
One of the main advantages is that communications are encrypted and operate through channels independent of commercial mobile phone networks. This allows officers to stay in contact even when conventional communications are affected by congestion. The devices also feature GPS technology, making it easier to locate patrols and coordinate operations.

CONNECTION TO THE ARAGON EMERGENCY NETWORK
The new technology is integrated into Aragon’s Digital Emergency Network through a collaboration agreement between Barbastro City Council, the Government of Aragon and Aragonesa de Servicios Telemáticos (AST). The agreement also allows the Local Police to join the management platform of the 112 Emergency Centre, with the aim of speeding up responses and improving coordination in any incident.
Local Police Subinspector Daniel Beguería highlighted that the new equipment provides "safer and more reliable communications" and makes it possible to know officers’ locations during operations. “This represents a significant improvement both for daily services and for interventions in emergency situations,” he said.
For his part, Barbastro Mayor Fernando Torres defended the introduction of the technology as part of the modernization of municipal services. “We continue to provide our Local Police with the resources they need to carry out their work more effectively and safely,” he said, stressing that the new system would enable a better response to local residents.
