The A-1603 Will Remain Restricted Through November 30 Due to Wildfire Damage

The Government of Aragon has decided to maintain traffic restrictions through November 30 on the A-1603 road between Santa Cruz de la Serñós and the junction with the Botaya road, in the province of Huesca. The measure remains in force because of ongoing risks in the area affected by the wildfire declared on August 10.
The A-1603 Will Remain Restricted Through November 30 Due to Wildfire Damage

The fire, which started in the municipality of Las Peñas de Riglos, burned nearly 18,000 hectares and reached the vicinity of the San Juan de la Peña Natural Monument. The scale of the wildfire led authorities to activate the Special Civil Protection Plan for Forest Fire Emergencies (PROCINFO) at the Emergency Phase and Operational Situation 2 level.

RISK OF ROCKFALLS IN THE AREA

The extension of the restrictions aims to ensure safety in an area that still faces risks resulting from the wildfire. According to the resolution, part of the forest around the New and Old Monasteries of San Juan de la Peña was affected irregularly by the flames.

The situation is compounded by the area's complex terrain, which could cause rockfalls affecting the A-1603 and its surroundings. For this reason, the regional government will maintain the restrictions while recovery, monitoring and surveillance work continues in the affected area.

WHO CAN ACCESS THE ROAD

The restrictions do not involve a complete closure. People who need to travel to tend to agricultural or livestock operations, as well as workers responsible for restoring and maintaining essential public services, will be allowed to use this stretch of road.
