The figure also places Aragon as the fifth autonomous community with the smallest increase in industrial prices. Only Extremadura, at 5%; Cantabria, at 6%; Navarre, at 6.8%; and Castile and León, at 7.2%, recorded smaller increases. Just above Aragon was Catalonia, where the rate reached 7.7%.
ARAGON AMONG THE COMMUNITIES WITH THE SMALLEST INCREASES
Aragon’s performance contrasts sharply with that recorded in other parts of the country. The largest increases occurred in Asturias and the Canary Islands, both at 27.3%, followed by the Balearic Islands, at 24.3%, and Andalusia, at 23.5%. All autonomous communities posted positive rates in August.
The difference between Aragon and the territories with the largest increases thus exceeded 15 percentage points by a wide margin. It also remained below communities such as the Basque Country, at 17%; Murcia, at 14.7%; Madrid, at 14.1%; Castile-La Mancha, at 12.7%; Galicia, at 12.5%; and the Valencian Community, at 11%.
INDUSTRIAL PRICES SURGE IN SPAIN
Nationwide, the Industrial Price Index (IPRI) reached an annual rate of 13.2% in August, 3.8 points above the rate recorded in July and its highest level since December 2022. In addition, industrial prices rose 2.9% between July and August alone.
Energy was the main factor behind the national increase. Its annual change rose by 12.1 points to 33.3%, mainly due to higher electricity production, transport and distribution costs, as well as oil refining costs. By contrast, the rate for non-durable consumer goods moderated to 0.2%.
