ECOS has expressed its sorrow at the loss of the man who was involved in the organization from its beginnings. "As a business organization, we share the family's grief and stand with them during these difficult times," the entity said in a brief statement.

Martínez Candial had a long career linked to some of Aragón's leading economic institutions. Among other responsibilities, he chaired the Zaragoza Chamber of Commerce between 1980 and 1991, a period during which he also headed the Feria de Muestras trade fair. His name later became particularly associated with Ibercaja, which he chaired between 1987 and 1995.

His ties to Zaragoza's commercial sector, however, went back much further. Throughout his career, he played an active role in business organizations and representative bodies in the commerce sector, a role that also included serving as ECOS's founding president.

His work also extended to other areas of Aragón's economic and institutional life. Trained as an economist, he held various professional and public positions over a career spanning several decades.

Following his death, ECOS has sought to especially highlight his role in driving the organization forward and publicly convey its closeness to and support for his family at this time.
